In Touch with Durham County
T he "In Touch with Durham County Government Show" provides governmental programming and access to your local government and provides timely, ongoing coverage of Durham County Government through the Government Access Television program.
"In Touch with Durham County," a new talk show now airs daily on Cable Channel 8. This new show replaces the former Durham County Government Sho that viewers have enjoyed since 1991. Michael Page, Chairman of the Durham Board of County Commissioners and Assistant County Manager Deborah Craig-Ray are the hosts.
The purpose of the show is to share relevant, timely information from Durham County community partner agencies, as well as provide interviews with elected officials, county department heads and key staff. Future topics include fall elections, updates on H1N1 or "swine flu," and county nonprofit agencies.
Show Details
On the July 2010 edition of the In Touch with Durham County Show, the show's hosts a special edition featuring Gayle Harris, health director for Durham County's Health Department who shares enlightening information about obesity. Recent reports reveal that more than 2/3 of United States adults are overweight or obese. The entire show is dedicated to conversations about obese adults and what can be done to reverse devastating trends.
In the second half of the show, Christy Perry, nutritionist for the DINE for LIFE Program joins the conversation. The DINE for LIFE Program, short for Durham's Innovative Nutrition Education for Lasting Improvements in Fitness and Eating, targets limited-resource audiences in various community sites throughout Durham County to provide nutrition education. Many of these sites include senior centers, churches, housing developments and homeless shelters.
Past Events and Guests of the "In Touch with Durham County Government Show"
On last month's edition of the In Touch with Durham County Show, the show's hosts spoke with Mike Smith, director of Durham County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Deborah Watlington, billing supervisor, about services provided by EMS and their billing process.
Cindy Bailey, administrator for Durham County Animal Control, shared information about the new anti-tethering law and the recent rabies outbreak in Durham County.
"In Touch with Durham County" is shown at:
- 8 a.m. Monday-Saturday
- Noon and 5 p.m. Mondays
- Noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday –Saturday
